NCEF Launches Home Energy Audit Incentive with Subgrant from Governor’s Office of Energy
New Incentive for Energy Audits Will Enable Residents to Identify Cost Savings
Nevada’s green bank, the Nevada Clean Energy Fund (NCEF), is excited to announce the launch of a new incentive program for households seeking guidance on home energy upgrades that can reduce energy costs. The program is supported by a subgrant from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE), using funds from Nevada’s federal Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EE CBG) award.
The new incentive covers the upfront cost of a comprehensive home energy audit. Eligible participants include single- or multi-family homeowners, in addition to renters that have permission from the property owner. NCEF is prioritizing at least 60% of the funds for low-income households, who typically experience disproportionate energy cost burdens. NCEF is establishing a vetted network of certified energy auditors, licensed by the Nevada Real Estate Division, to perform an energy audit. Audits culminate in a report of recommended retrofit measures or upgrades that can improve that home’s energy performance, safety, or comfort. The Program Guidance and application form on NCEF’s website has more details on eligibility and participation.
“We are excited to see the announcement of this program as a vitally needed resource for Nevadans struggling with high energy costs,” said Dwayne McClinton, Director of GOE and Chairperson of NCEF’s Board of Directors. “This program will help lower energy costs for Nevada families while supporting jobs for local, licensed energy auditors and contractors. We look forward to seeing NCEF make progress with increasing the number of energy audits for Nevada households.”
“An energy audit empowers a household with recommendations to increase the efficiency and comfort of their home in accordance with building science principles,” said Les Lazareck, a Nevada energy auditor, owner of Home Energy Connection, and Vice Chairperson of NCEF’s Board of Directors. “This program can help a household overcome hurdles towards a safer, more comfortable, and more efficient home and set them on a path to realize a home retrofit or upgrade that lowers their monthly energy bill.”
“Thanks to the support of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy, we are proud to introduce an incentive to help Nevada homeowners understand their energy needs and identify cost-saving opportunities,” said Kirsten Stasio, CEO of NCEF. “Combined with the financing and technical assistance NCEF already offers to homeowners through our Residential Energy Upgrade Program—RE-UP—this audit incentive strengthens our organization’s role as a one-stop-shop hub for Nevadans seeking clean energy solutions.”
