BPI & Heat Pump Training & Guides
We recommend heat pump installers attend a manufacturer's training in design, sizing, and installation. In addition, ICAST offers a free online training program including heat pump design, installation and maintenance, and basics of building science. Heat pump installers who complete these trainings should let us know to receive recognition on our contractor page.

Eligible Products
Federal tax credits and utility incentives require that heat pumps meet minimum requirements to be eligible. What is eligible under one program may not be eligible under another. Here are three product lists that may be helpful in determining whether heat pumps meet the minimum efficiency or other requirements of various programs and climates:
- Equipment eligible for federal tax credits: www.energystar.gov/about/federal_tax_credits
- To be eligible for NV Energy's HVAC rebates, contractors must become part of NV Energy's certified contractor network: www.nvenergy.com/save-with-powershift/home-energy-saver/residential-ac-and-mid-stream/residential-air-conditioning
- Cold-climate heat pumps are listed on the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership's (NEEP) cold-climate heat pump product list; they must have a variable-speed compressor (or a minimum of three-stage compressors) and achieve a coefficient of performance (COP) of 1.75 at an outdoor temperature of 5 degrees F. Cold-climate heat pumps achieve better heating performance at cold temperatures and high efficiency throughout the entire range of heating season temperatures.
